AITX Expands U.S. Reach

American Industrial Transport, Inc. (AITX) has expanded its repair and maintenance network across the U.S. Northeast and Midwest with facilities in Milton, Pa. and Clinton, Ind. Both facilities are currently open and actively servicing repair customers.

“The Andersons’ railcar repair network aligns perfectly with Cathcart Rail’s strategic goal of offering a broad array of rail services across a national footprint,” said Casey Cathcart, Chairman and CEO of Cathcart Rail, whose Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad received a Short Line of the Year Honorable Mention from Railway Age in 2021.

Cathcart Expanding Railcar Repair Business

Columbus, Ohio-based Cathcart Rail has signed an agreement to purchase The Andersons’ railcar repair business. The deal is expected to close this summer; terms were not disclosed.

Baltz Joins AITX as CFO

American Industrial Transport, Inc. (AITX) has appointed Eric Baltz as Chief Financial Officer. Baltz joins AITX following 14 years with coal producer Peabody Energy, most recently as Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer.

AITX Acquires The Andersons, Inc. Railcar Leasing Unit for $0.55B, Cash

The Andersons, Inc. has sold its railcar leasing business to American Industrial Transport, Inc. (AITX) for approximately $550 million in cash, and also intends to sell off its remaining railcar repair business, including 29 U.S. facilities, as part of a “strategic decision” to jettison all its railcar interests and focus on its agricultural businesses, which include commodity trading, ethanol and plant nutrient sectors.

AITX Expanding in Mississippi

AITX Railcar Services, LLC, with a $23.36 million investment, is expanding its Brookhaven, Miss., maintenance and repair facilty.
